He came over and wanted to hold my hand. "Laurel, are you still mad at me? I apologize for what happened last time. I spoke without thinking. Can you forgive me? Don't joke about canceling the wedding anymore."

I avoided his hand. I didn't believe a word he said. New York was a big city. If it wasn't intentional, two people could almost never meet each other. What was more, they looked so familiar with each other.

Perhaps in the past four years, Esmond had been meeting Daisy behind my back and complaining to her about my willfulness. Perhaps he'd even say to her that I was nothing compared to her.

Daisy was no better than Esmond. She had broken up with him, and she knew he had a new girlfriend, but she kept on having an affair with him. If she still loved him so much, why did they break up in the first place? Why did she let him waste my time? He was such a cheating womanizer!

"Esmond, are you this horny? You pounce at whatever woman you see no matter how lousy they are?"

I mocked both Esmond and Daisy.

Esmond frowned, and the veins on his neck bulged. Suppressing his anger, he said, "Laurel, this is uncalled for!"

"What is it? Do you find it harsh? But what you said is much harsher, don't you think? Stop being two-faced, Esmond. If you are dissatisfied with me, you can say it in my face."

Esmond looked embarrassed, and he pulled a long face. "You heard everything?"

I didn't answer his stupid question. I just glanced at him and Daisy sarcastically.

The people around seemed to realize that Esmond cheated on me with Daisy. The good show made them stop what they were doing, and they looked at us, their gazes gossipy.

Their mocking eyes left Daisy embarrassed. Her whole face turned red, and she stuttered as she tried to explain, "Laurel, Esmond and I really met by chance. We chatted for a bit because he wanted to buy you a gift to apologize. He was afraid that you wouldn't like it, so he wanted me to choose it for you."

Esmond immediately echoed, "That's right."

Jessica, with sharp eyes, saw that the tag on the bracelet Daisy was wearing was still on. She sneered, "Really? Choosing a gift for Laurel? Then how did it end up on your wrist?

"No wonder you two are a perfect match! You hooked up right after Esmond's breakup. And you even got together openly and went shopping for gifts. Esmond, what did you get for Laurel for the wedding? Nothing, right?
