These two thought of me as a total fool! Who was going to marry Esmond? Me or Daisy? If I agreed Daisy to be my bridesmaid, at the wedding, as we were all standing on stage, perhaps they might think of it as a way of them getting married. And standing between them, I'd look like a fool.
I felt betrayed. He cheated on me before we even got married!
"It's our wedding. Do you think it's appropriate for your ex to be the bridesmaid?"
"No one else knows she's my ex. Besides, Daisy said she won't steal your thunder," Esmond said casually. Perhaps he felt that my attitude had softened.
I was so furious that I almost wanted to laugh. So what if others didn't know? That didn't make it appropriate.
Did he enjoy the pleasure of flirting with his ex-girlfriend secretly in public?
"Can I invite my ex-boyfriend to be our groomsman?"
Esmond's expression immediately changed. He refused immediately with a livid face, "No way!"
After saying that, he realized that his reaction was too extreme, and his voice immediately softened as he said, "Laurel, Daisy is different from those ex-boyfriends of yours. She just wants to come to the wedding. That's all.
"Besides, you happen to need a bridesmaid, right? Daisy is helping us. She has good intentions."
At this point, Esmond still hadn't given up on having Daisy be my bridesmaid.
"Do you want Daisy to be the bridesmaid or the bride?" I questioned him loudly.
Perhaps I hit the nail on the head, or perhaps it was some other reason. Anyway, he immediately retorted loudly, "Can you stop the nonsense? I didn't mean that!"
"What do you mean then? If you don't want to get married, just say it. There's no need to come up with such an excuse to disgust me!"
I was very angry. The matter of us getting married had been pretty much settled. Now, by doing this, he completely disrespected me.
From this, I could also tell he still had feelings for Daisy.
I had always known that Esmond had a girlfriend he dated for five years, but it always seemed that he had put it behind him. I thought the reason why Esmond chose to be with me was that he had already let go, and he wouldn't still be entangled with his ex-girlfriend. But reality dealt me a heavy blow. Esmond had never forgotten Daisy.
